This site is lovingly dedicated to our founder, Burton Barrows, loving husband, father,
treasured friend and talented writer.

Burt was a strong advocate for our furry friends and this
website was his creation.

Sadly, Burt left us in July of 2006..

Dearest Burt:

I shall always miss
your humor and sensible approach to life.
'Til we meet again....
All my love, Sandy

BURT BARROWS
This month commemorates the passing of our beloved founder, Burt Barrows.  Four years ago on the 16th of July,  I received an email from his daughter detailing a harrowing trip to the hospital and Burt's passing.  It seems like just a few days ago that I opened my email, read her message, and thought, "Not Burt.  She must be talking about Burt's father".  It took awhile for this sad news to sink in.  I was devastated.

I knew and loved Burt - considered him to be one of the best people I knew - but never had the good fortune to meet him in person nor even speak to him on the phone.  We first met about 15 years ago as members of the now-defunct online Chow email group, "Chow Chows at LaBridge".   We then worked together on the now also defunct online Chow Magazine, "The Living Chow Chow".  This website, The Furry Friends Book,  was Burt's pet project which went live in 2002.   He was the submitter and finder of stories - I had the easy job of posting them and marveling when he had time to write one of his great stories.

I had planned to call Burt many times, but it was always something I would do 'tomorrow'.  How I wish I had called right while I was thinking of it.  My son and I had planned to meet up with Burt and his lovely wife, Jeannette, at the Chow Nationals in Olympia, Washington, in early 2006.   Alas, he did not feel up to making the trip.  How I wish with all my heart he had.

I will feature some of Burt's wonderful stories in the months to come.  In the interest of saving space and time, I am setting them up as a downloadable Word document.  Please enjoy....(click image of book!)
